While Vautir is unlocked, your vault’s keys are in the app’s memory. Locking wipes them.
When Vautir locks
| Where | It locks |
|---|---|
| Browser extension | When you click Lock, when your screen locks, when the browser closes, and after the time you choose without keyboard or mouse input |
| iPhone, iPad and Android | When you lock it, and after the time you choose away from the app |
| Mac | When the Mac sleeps, when its screen locks, and after the time you choose behind other apps |
| Windows | When the computer wakes from sleep, and after the time you choose |
| Linux | When the computer sleeps or its screen locks, and after the time you choose |
| Web vault | After the time you choose, and whenever you reload or close the tab |
Choose the time under Account: 5, 15 or 60 minutes, or never. It’s 15 minutes until you change it, and it’s set for each device.
In Safari, the extension locks when Vautir goes unused for that time, since Safari doesn’t tell extensions when the screen locks.
Unlocking
- Your master password always works.
- Your face or finger, once you turn it on under Account on that device: Face ID, Touch ID, Android biometrics or Windows Hello.
- The desktop app, for a paired browser: see Unlocking the browser with the desktop app.
If you enroll a new face or finger on a device, Vautir asks for your master password once, then biometrics work again when you turn them back on.
What you copy
Whatever you copy from Vautir is cleared from the clipboard after 90 seconds, and when Vautir locks, unless you’ve copied something else since. The web vault can’t do this, so clear what you copy there yourself.
Clipboard histories, such as the one in Windows, keep their own copy, which Vautir can’t clear.
While locked
A locked browser extension still shows its menu under sign-in fields, offering to unlock. On your phone, AutoFill opens the vault with your face or finger for one fill, and the app stays locked.
