How can we help?
Setting up Vautir, bringing your passwords, sharing, running a team, and getting back in if you're locked out.
Getting started
Your account, Vautir on each device, and vaults kept only on them.
- Getting started with VautirCreate your account, save your Emergency Kit, and install Vautir on your devices, in about five minutes.
- Using Vautir in your browserThe Vautir extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and the browsers built on them: filling logins, the popup, keyboard shortcuts, and when it locks.
- Setting up Vautir on iPhone and iPadTurn on Face ID or Touch ID, AutoFill for passwords, codes and passkeys, and Vautir for Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
- Setting up Vautir on AndroidMake Vautir your autofill service and passkey provider on Android, turn on fingerprint unlock, and have Chrome ask Vautir.
- Vautir on your computerThe Vautir apps for Mac, Windows and Linux: how each unlocks, when it locks, and how it works with your browser.
- Unlocking the browser with the desktop appPair the browser extension with Vautir for Windows or Linux, so one unlock covers both.
- Using the web vaultOpen your Vautir vault in any browser with nothing to install, and what the web vault does differently from the apps.
- A vault on this device onlyKeep a Vautir vault on one device with no account and no server: how to make one with a license, what it can't do, and how to back it up.
- Syncing through your own folderKeep a local-only Vautir vault in step between your devices through iCloud Drive, Dropbox or another folder you share, with no server.
Your vault
Filling, saving, passkeys, codes, aliases, items and files.
- Importing from another password managerMove your passwords, passkeys and notes to Vautir from 1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden, Dashlane, Keeper, browsers and more.
- Filling logins, cards and addressesHow Vautir fills usernames, passwords, one-time codes, payment cards and addresses, and how it decides which page gets what.
- Saving logins and suggested passwordsHow Vautir offers to save a login after you sign in, updates a changed password, and suggests strong passwords on sign-up forms.
- Using passkeysCreate passkeys and sign in with them in Vautir, on your computer and your phone, and move them between password managers.
- Two-step verification codesKeep a login's one-time codes in Vautir, so the six-digit code is filled with the password, on every device.
- Email aliasesGive each website its own email address that forwards to your inbox: how to make an alias in Vautir, reply through it, and turn it off.
- Generating passwordsMake strong random passwords and memorable passphrases with Vautir's generator, and why the first suggestion is usually accepted.
- Kinds of items, and custom fieldsThe 23 kinds of item Vautir keeps, from logins and cards to Wi-Fi networks and software licenses, and how to add fields of your own.
- Keeping files with itemsAttach a passport scan, a contract or a recovery sheet to an item in Vautir, encrypted on your device before it's uploaded.
- Organizing with vaults, tags and favoritesSplit your items into vaults, such as one for work or one to share, move items between them, and find things with tags and favorites.
- An item's historySee what an item held before each change in Vautir, and bring an earlier version back, for up to a year.
- The Archive and Recently DeletedKeep items you no longer use out of the way in the Archive, and get back anything you deleted within 30 days.
- Exporting your vaultExport everything in your Vautir vault, on any plan, files included, as Vautir JSON, a Credential Exchange file or CSV, and keep the file safe.
- When Vautir doesn't offer a loginWhy Vautir might not offer or fill a login on a page, from a different website address to a hidden menu, and what to do about each.
Sharing and family
Shared vaults, links, families and legacy contacts.
- Setting up legacy contactsChoose who inherits a vault if something happens to you, how long they wait, and how to say no to a request.
- Sharing a vaultShare a vault with people you choose, to view or edit, and send single items to anyone with share links.
- Sharing one item with a linkSend a single item to someone who doesn't use Vautir, with a link that expires, can open only once, and can be revoked.
- Starting or joining a familySet up a Vautir family of up to six people with a shared Family vault, invite people, and leave or end a family.
- Checking a fingerprintWhat a Vautir fingerprint is, when to compare one, and how it proves you're sharing with the right person and nobody else.
Security and recovery
Locking, your Secret Key, fixing passwords, and getting back in.
- Locking and unlockingWhen Vautir locks by itself, how to unlock with your face, finger or master password, and what happens to what you copy.
- Your Secret Key and Emergency KitWhat the Vautir Secret Key is, why you need it for every new device, and how to print and keep your Emergency Kit.
- Changing your master passwordHow to change your Vautir master password, what happens on your other devices, and why nobody can reset it for you.
- Logging in with a device that's already logged inLet a new device into your Vautir account from one that's already logged in, without typing your master password or Secret Key on it.
- Recovering your accountWhat to do if you forget your master password, with your recovery code or your family organizer's help.
- Trusted contactsSplit your Vautir recovery code between three people you trust: any two of them can help you back in, and one alone learns nothing.
- Family recoveryLet your family's organizer help you back into your Vautir account if you lose your master password, and what that trust means.
- Travel ModeCarry only the vaults you choose across a border: how to mark vaults safe for travel, turn Travel Mode on, and turn it off again.
- Using the Security viewFind passwords in known breaches, reused or weak passwords, and websites without https, then change them.
- Changing a password with the password fixerLet Vautir change a weak or leaked password on the site for you: what Fix password does, how to confirm it, and what happens if it breaks off.
- If Vautir warns you about a keyWhat Vautir's three key warnings mean, why they're rare, and exactly what to do if you ever see one.
