When Vautir doesn't offer a login

Why Vautir might not offer or fill a login on a page, from a different website address to a hidden menu, and what to do about each.

Vautir fills a login only where it’s sure the login belongs. When the menu doesn’t show what you expect, one of these is usually why.

The saved website is a different site

A login is offered only on the site it’s saved for. Open the item and check its Website. A login saved for shop.example isn’t offered on shop-example.com, and one saved for alice.github.io isn’t offered on another person’s github.io page. If the site moved to a new address, add the new website to the item.

Vautir says the site only looks like another

The menu shows Not and a site’s name when the page only looks like a site where you have a login: a letter swapped, a word added, or a letter from another alphabet. Check the address. If the site really is yours, save a login for it, and the warning stops there.

The page is http, and the login is for https

A login saved for an https:// site is never offered on an http:// page, since the password would cross the network unencrypted. Check the page’s address: it may be an imitation.

The item is in the Archive or Recently Deleted

Neither is ever offered. Take the item out of the Archive, or restore it.

The menu says the page is hiding it

Vautir’s menu fills only after it has been fully visible for half a second. If a page covers it, makes it see-through or shrinks it, the menu says so and won’t fill. That’s the defense against a kind of attack called clickjacking. Use Fill in the popup instead.

The form is inside another site’s frame

Each frame is matched on its own address. A sign-in form shown inside another site’s page gets only the logins saved for the form’s own site.

Vautir doesn’t find the form

Some sites show their form only after a click, or draw it in an unusual way. Open the popup and choose Fill, or copy the username and password from the item. Sites like these are what the nightly autofill tests look for, so they get fixed.

The vault you shared hasn’t been accepted

A vault someone shares with you isn’t listed, searched or filled until you accept it. That keeps anyone from slipping logins into your autofill by sharing a vault with you.

Cards and addresses

They’re offered only on https:// pages, and only when you click a card number, name or address field.
