Exporting your vault

Export everything in your Vautir vault, on any plan, files included, as Vautir JSON, a Credential Exchange file or CSV, and keep the file safe.

You can export your whole vault at any time, on every plan.

Export

  1. Open Account, then Export.
  2. Enter your master password. Vautir asks so that nobody at your unlocked device can take everything in one click.
  3. Choose a format, and where to save the file.

Which format

Format What it holds Use it for
Vautir (.json) Every item exactly as stored, with passkeys, password history and tags A backup, or moving to another Vautir account
Vautir with files (.zip) The same, with the files kept with items beside it, up to 256 MB of them A full backup, files and all. Importing it gives back the items and their files
Credential Exchange (.cxf.json) Logins with their passkeys, private keys included, and one-time codes, cards, identities, passports, SSH keys and notes Apple Passwords, 1Password, Bitwarden, and any app that reads the format
Other apps (.csv) Logins and passwords Most other password managers and browsers

On iPhone, iPad and Android, Vautir with files is a switch under the Vautir format: With the files kept with items.

Send it straight to another app

On iPhone, iPad and Mac with iOS or macOS 26, Credential Exchange has Send to an app instead…. The system asks which app takes your items, and hands them over without writing a file. Going the other way, pick Vautir in another app’s export sheet, and Vautir shows what it will import.

Keep the file safe

The file isn’t encrypted: anyone who gets it can read every password. Import it where it’s going, then delete it, and empty the trash.

What stays out

  • Items in Recently Deleted.
  • Settings, such as the sites where Vautir never offers to save.
  • Files kept with items, except in Vautir with files. Credential Exchange and CSV files have no place for them.
  • In a CSV file: every kind of item except logins and passwords. The export page says how many it left out.
