Kinds of items, and custom fields

Add an item

Choose New item, and pick a kind. Each kind offers the fields it usually needs; fill the ones you have.

Custom fields

Any item can have fields of your own. Give each a name and a kind: text, hidden, email, phone, website, date or month. Hidden fields are shown as dots until you reveal them, and are never searched.

What every item has

• A title, notes, tags and a favorite mark.
• Websites, which decide where a login is offered.
• A history: earlier passwords are kept with the item, and History… brings back an earlier version of the whole item. See An item’s history.
• Files, if you add them: see Keeping files with items.

Search

Search matches every word you type, in any order, against titles, the line under each title, websites, tags, notes and fields that aren’t secret. Passwords, hidden fields and one-time code setups are never searched. Typing passkey finds the items that have one.

Editing on more than one device

If two devices change the same item before they sync, Vautir merges the changes field by field. If both changed the same field, the item keeps one value and your other version is saved as a copy, so nothing is lost.

Limits

An item holds up to 512 KB once encrypted. Anything larger belongs in a file.
