On a sign-up form
Click the new-password field. Vautir suggests a password that fits the site’s own rules, and saves the login when you choose it. See Saving logins and suggested passwords.
The generator
Open the generator from the wand in the browser extension, or from Generator in the apps and the web vault.
- Random makes a password of random characters. Choose its length, and whether it has digits and symbols. Upper- and lower-case letters are always in.
- Memorable makes a passphrase of words from EFF’s word list, for the few passwords you have to type or say out loud.
The bar under the password shows its strength. Another makes a new one, and Copy copies it.
What you get by default
20 characters from lower case, upper case, digits and safe symbols, with at least one of each. That’s about 124 bits of randomness: far beyond guessing.
Why sites accept it
For the sites in Apple’s open list of password rules, Vautir keeps to the site’s length limits and its required and forbidden characters. If a site still refuses a password, turn symbols off and make it longer.
